Viral Marketing Blog Has Appeared For This Cloverfield Film

There's a blog up and running now that is part of the viral campaign around Cloverfield. There's also a link there to a rather odd game you can play. Look closely at the screen capture below and you might get your first glimpse of the parasite.

Unlock anything astonishing and you can let me know. And please put your tips for the game in the comments section.

And check out the second film ick podcast for something on the film's true title.

  1. OK, when you go to http://www.ethanhaaswasright.com and get to the half-opened golden globe thing, click on it and you'll see 6 or 7 titles pop-up in a specific sequence. You have to click on the same tiles in the same sequence. But don't worry, if you mess the sequence up, it just starts the automated sequence again (it never changes).

Once you finish, it launches a grainy full-screen video of some guy in a baseball hat. (I think his name was Dan.) He goes on and on about how everyone though Ethan Hass was a madman, but his predictions of the future - in which a lot of people die - are coming true. He says, since you found the video, you're one of them, and you need to spread the word about Haas. Baseball hat dude charges us with bringing more people to the site to share the video message and gather Haas' believers, but he notes that we only have until August 1st to do so.

How odd. The whole mythology they're trying to build around his film through the blog site and the Haas game seems downright Lovecraftian in scope and tone.

Once you get past the point "Tom" mentioned, you get another puzzle. This one has a sphere surrounded by characters going vertically and horizontally around the object. In the sky there are three stars. If you hover over the one on the right, a legend appears, depicting the characters as an "A to Z" code. I don't know what the sphere spells out yet, but I will try to keep you posted.

  3. Once you figure out the first thing and get the grainy baseball hat guy video, if you go back to the site, a new game comes up. Can't figure this one out though

In the sphere puzzle you must correspond the symbols on the the sphere to spell "No" You can then email van@ethanhaaswasright.com entitled "I'm one of you...help me!"

Wait, pay no attention to that. The email part is true if you click star to left. The sphere still remains unsolved.

I can't figure it out either but, if you view the page source (in Firefox) it says:

'War came, no longer from the elemental nor from the star's rain of fire. The world was again remade, and the glow was as the coming of the sun upon the Earth. The children of the gods were again too few, scattered and divided and among them walked the ancients and those whose thoughts were not as to the towers and the marvels, but to the End and the destruction of the Earth and to the fires from which nothing could escape.'

  7. OK, I think I have the letter pairs on the horizontal line.
AS DQ IE ZR ES UC OG HA TV NI BE SA GZ TA ER

Possibly some of the Z might be P. I have no idea what it spells.

  8. One of the stars s a link to an email address. You will recieve an auto-message explaining the solutions to the puzzles. Puzzle 2, spell HAAS with the letters, using the key above.

  9. I just cracked the second puzzle. I matched up two of the symbols vertically and then twisted the horizontal dial until there was a complete match. A second film has popped up with the hat man again.

Joey here again. The lower left star gives you an e-mail address. When you send an e-mail to said address, an auto response comes back:

"If you're receiving this auto-response message it means that I've gone into hiding. You should be careful now, too. They're likely to start coming after all of us in an attempt to keep the balance of power in their favor. But remember, as our numbers increase as a group, the weaker they'll become.

As you recruit new people to our cause, you might need to share this message as guidance for how to navigate the 5 locks to the key code...

    1) The first lock will test your memory. Follow the trail of light and sound, but be careful -- one wrong move will send you back to the beginning.

    2) For the second lock, you may need to look to the stars. They will help you find HAAS who will lead your way.

    3) The third lock will require you to extinguish all lights but one. Only with one light remaining will you be able to proceed.

    4) The fourth lock will let you move all 4 pieces through the control of one. However, unless the three key pieces are simultaneously placed into position, you will not be granted access.

    5) The fifth lock will be the toughest. Seek help again from the stars to reveal your key and the message that you must decode. The two working together will open the way.

    Good luck.

    Van"

I am fairly certain that for the second puzzle you must spell "HAAS" somehow.

  11. The next puzzle is a puzzle in which you need to "jump the blue dots like in chess. The object is to end up with only one dot on the board. I'm sure there is some strategy to this but I managed to get through it by trial and error.
Oh, and the back ground of the city has now been leveled, buildings destroyed and on fire. Made through the next grainy vid, but
my audio is so choppy that I have no idea what was said. The next puzzle has four dots, three green and one blue. With the arrow keys you "drive" the blue to around and it appears that the object is to get all three green dots on to three circular
points on the board. I tried this one for a while but couldn't get it.

I know everyone is trying to figure out what the deal is with this movie, but has anyone thought about the obvious connects via bad Robot/J.J.Abrams and how it may actually be a massive promotion for LOST as well as a movie.

Possible connection? Maybe. But if it was true, I'd have a great deal of respect for the people who came up with the whole concept 'cause it's bad ass!

I'm not claiming to know anything from the inside, but I do believe it would make a lot of sense.

    Thoughts?

  13. We're on the 4th puzzle with the tracking balls. But what linked the Ethan Haas was Wrong site to Cloverfield? Apparently the Ethan Haas was right site has been up since March and people have been playing the games!

  14. Hey guys, just wanted to let you know they played ...what I assume is the teaser trailer for "Cloverfield" before Transformers. It said it was produced my Abrams. My brother, who was sitting next to me, asked: "Why was there no title at the credits?" and I just kind of laughed. It does look very interesting, like a massive-monster movie, shot with a single camera. I honestly don't know much about it, but watching the Statue of Liberty's Head role down a NYC Street was pretty sweet.

    Anonymous.

Sorry to tell you, but you are an idiot.

Bad robot is JJ Abrams production company. Anything and everything he does will carry the "BAD ROBOT" insignia.

There is no link between the two other then the fact that the same production company is doing them.

ILM did star wars and they also did Transformers special effects. So are you stupid enough to think those two are connected?

(sorry to be rude but so many people have said this and I am just amazed by how ignorant people are when it comes to production.)

Maybe I'm an idiot, but I can't even solve puzzle 1. I've got a grey sphere (not the gold, half-opened one in the screenshot), lighting in the sky, and a weird alphabet that becomes visible if you mouse over the right-hand star. Where do I go from there?

"CLOVERFIELD" has been shooting since May of this year.

The games were launched earlier to trigger an awareness to an upcoming event such as the film.

In August, the game takes on a whole new shape.

The creature in the film is somewhat design based on Lovecraft-ian creatures.

More info to follow regarding "Cloverfield".

for the 3rd puzzle just keep at it and you will get it by trial and error - best bet is to make your first jump from the middle down - separating the game into two halves...

I got the same thing for the 5th puzzle, except that I got "one" before "two" in the top row (but I got the same results for the bottom rows. I thought that since there are 20 characters and 20 of those mixed up letters in the bottom row, there must be a connection, but tried several things with no luck. I even put it into Excel to see if the letters might form vertical words, but no luck. I'm stumped.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Anonymous8:26 am

    Sorry, correction. The rows are

    FIVE
    BNSN

    FOUR
    EITD

    THREE
    ENIE

    ONE
    HIGE

    TWO
    TGNH

I just double checked and they are all correct. It can't be a coincidence that there is 20 letters in the bottom rows (and 20 panels to flip in the puzzle). The numbering is also weird.

hey guys, just to let you know this whole beginning is the end thing is in reference to the movie...From what i know is the first scene of the movie is a rescue team finding the camera of the party people and they watch back their footage. hence 'the beginning is the end'.

Also that must mean (i hope) the cast all die! yeah!
