The Centenary of Animation

This April, the artform of animating still images frame by frame to create the illusion of movement on film will be 100 years old. To celebrate, why not download the very first animated film, Humorous Phases of Funny Faces?

Many films prior to this one experimented with animation techniques, particularly variants on stop-motion with inanimate objects, but here you see the first example of illustrations given "life", a clear progenitor of what Disney, for example, would later master.
