Rhinoceros Eyes

A trailer for Rhinoceros Eyes has appeared online. The film was the directorial debut of Aaron Woodley, the nephew of David Cronenberg - but judging from this trailer alone I'd have to say that this one man jury is still out on whether or not talent has run in the family. The presence of Michael Pitt alone is enough to ring alarm bells: that boy certainly knows how to pick a turkey or two. The film originally opened in NYC last spring but has been seldom seen since, though a DVD is now finally iminent.

Until I've seen the whole thing, I'm prepared to give Rhinoceros Eyes the benefit of the doubt. The production values are certainly rather high. What's more, if the film just hasn't come together in the final edit, perhaps there is some hope after all as a special program for film students is affording them the opportunity to re-cut the whole thing - from all 50 hours of original footage, two complete scores and three entire alternate takes of the voice over narration.
