Volver
The first trailer for Pedro Almodovar's Volver is online - so get excited. Bad Education ranked number 4 in my films of 2004 list (behind only The Incredibles, Oldboy and Spider-Man 2 - in escalating order of sheer brilliance). It demonstrated the success of Almodovar at his most ambitious and fearlessly sophisticated, and I'm only hoping he's bitten off as much with Volver because he's certainly got the chops to chew it.
Carmen Maura stars, apparently as the ghost of a deceased mother. The title means "to return", and so she does, returning now to her family to tie up all of the loose ends that being alive - and presumably therefore proud, scared and at the mercy of neuroses - prevented her from resolving. Penelope Cruz and Lola Duenas also appear - but while Cruz' character sings in the film (and trailer), she has been dubbed by the flamenco fan favourite, cantoara Estrella Morente, on the soundtrack.
If you want to play around with Ms. Cruz, dress-me-up and dress-me-down action is only a click away.
