Blair Witch Director Comes Back From The Dead

Dan Myrick was one of the directors of the original Blair Witch Project (a cute film, but not as good as the ambitious, confused sequel and, truth be told, only one tenth as smart) . Since then, we've heard very little from him - what few projects he did manage to get made were given only minor distribution and they pretty much vanished without a trace. Doesn't seem fair.

This week he begins filming his new film, Solstice. Again, it's a horror film, this one a remake of the Danish cult fave Midsommer. Myrick has been logging a blog on the film's official site, and alarmingly, the latest installment tells of how some key roles are still to be cast with just a few days to go before production begins.

Midsommer has a reputedly brilliant twist ending, but don't ask me what it is, I haven't been able to see it yet. I dare say an enterprising/cynical distributor will get copies on the shelves of Blockbusters everywhere by the time the remake rolls out.
