Peyton Reed's The Break-Up

Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston both offer the world of film something we can get more of, and a more refined blend of, from several of their peers, but nonetheless, The Break-Up, this summer's upcoming anti-romantic comedy that stars the two of them, is one of my most highly antcipated films of the year.

Why? Peyton Reed, that's why. His previous films Bring It On and Down With Love are wonderfully made, quietly personal and resistant to the mire of tired formula that bogs down most star driven projects. He's a wonderful stylist, a dedicated craftsman and an inventive, creative thinker. He also seems to be completely without any kind of fan support or public profile. That's the lot of a director with dedication but without ego, I suppose.

Both the teaser and first full trailer hint at Reed's direction with The Break-Up, but to really get a good look at the work he's done here we'll have to wait and see the whole picture.

I'm actually pretty excited about that.
