Weinsteins Grasp Ong Bak 2

Here's something I read on Monsters and Critics.

Though it doesn't begin filming until the autumn, the Worldwide rights (excepting Asia and the UK) to Ong Bak 2 have been nabbed by the Weinsteins. Perhaps this was the influence of their new whipping boy Bey Logan, though it really was a no-brainer to pick this up and they could probably have spotted the good sense in doing so by themselves.

The UK rights are likely to fall to the Contender Group, Logan's former employers. Perhaps a Weinstein/Contender grudge match could be arranged and filmed as a special feature for the winner's DVD.

Little is known about part 2, but thankfully it does re-team Tony Jaa and Panna Rittikrai, star and director of Ong Bak. The have an ante to up, so I dare say, a lot of Thai butt is going to get whupped.

To tide you over until the film's eventual release (in 2010 or so, if the Weinstein's track record is anything to go by), there's more Muy Thai mayhem from Jaa and co. in Tom Yum Goong. Be weary of which edition you pick up as only the upcoming "Limited Edition" Korean DVD contains English subtitles - but you can order that now from YesAsia.
