M Again

Variety sez: Universal have shelled out for an untitled pitch from Neil Burger, director of The Illusionist and Interview with the Assassin. Though set in contemporary New York and not focussed on a serial killer, this one actually sounds a lot like M to me. I'll quote Variety's piece:

New York-set story concerns an imminent terror threat that's caused a law-enforcement crackdown, bringing all crime to a standstill. The criminals get organized, pooling their resources to search for the terrorists. While their motivation is to get back to their nefarious business, the exercise forces them to re-examine their morality and place in society.

Perhaps not as much like M as was Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, yet not a million miles away either.

I think Burger's oeuvre has the makings of a slow burning cult just waiting to catch light.
