Rodriguez To Knowles: Grind House Barely Cut

Over at Aint It Cool, Harry Knowles says:

I just got off the phone with Rodriguez - who is celebrating getting his R-rating for the double feature without having to sacrifice much of anything. He only lost part of a brain-eating scene and Quentin only lost part of one of the crash scenes.

Sure, Harry - but what did Eli Roth, Rob Zombie and Edgar Wright lose?

They probably lost a good bit, especially Eli Roth. Really, though, showing a fat man eating a baby is a little much for me. I understand that it's supposed to be shocking, exploitive and all that. but killing children and babies onscreen crosses the line...for me.

Why's that, Colonel?

Are baby and child lives more valuable somehow?

Brendon, are you really that obtuse? There's obviously a much stronger stigma associated with child death, and leave it to a no-talent hack glorified pornographer like Roth to capitalize on it to get press ink.

I agree that there's a stronger stigma attached to child death - but I'd question if there should be.

It's utterly in the spirit of the quasi-pornographic Grind House 'movement' for something like this. It isn't out of place.
