De Niro And Scorsese Reteaming For Frankie Machine

According to Nikki Finke (scourge of torture pornographers, advocate of piracy) Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese are to reteam for Frankie Machine. Adapted from Don Winslow's The Winter of Frankie Machine, the screenplay has been adapted by Brian Koppelman and David Levien. She reports that Scorsese will shift gears to this upon completing his Rolling Stones documentary.

I like De Niro as much as the next guy - at least I do when he's on form and not just treading water or indulging in a curious 'experimental' choice of role. Scorsese... well, you probably know what I make of Scorsese by now.

As for Koppelman and Levien. Yep. You probably know what I think of them too. I haven't been too shy in praising their work.

Do we really need another 'retired mob man pursued by his dark past' film, though? I doubt very much this will be up to the standard of Sexy Beast.
