Quiz This

Quiz This is going to be a regular-ish feature on film ick. Sometimes we'll pass a couple of days without having one, sometimes we'll have a couple in the same day. Unless, of course, nobody participates, in which case I'll never bother with it again.

Look at the three stills below. Can you identify each of the films they come from and also tell me which person - a cast or crew member - links them all? If so, leave a comment below. The imaginary gold star goes to the first complete answer or, failing that, the most complete answer.

the link between them all is Quentin Tarantino - but other than the fact that the second has cereal boxes, (which he collects), and the third is from Pulp Fiction ... I can't work out the first screenshot!

Damn, i know the bottom 2.Dont want to spoil it for others.

Tarantino is not the link, but that was a very smart guess.

The link is a person who worked on all three films. I hope that helps.

Identify the bottom two and you'll probably find the right person. Now all you have to do is look through their resume for the first film...

I think it has something to do with M. Night. I think it has something to do with his new film.

All it has to do with Shyamalan is that he directed one of the three films above. That's all.

Well, that and that the missing link is credited on imdb as working on his next film. If she actually does or not is yet to be seen, but I suppose she most likely will.

Betsy Heimann was the costume designer on:

picture 1) almost famous
picture 2) lady in the water
picture 3) pulp fiction

Oops. I only meant to allow one of those three identical comments. But you all got the message, I'm sure.

Nearly right. So nearly. So very, very nearly.

Three out of four facts in place.

Who can spot the single mistake and correct it?

considering i've never seen lady in the water or my next guess to correct my earlier answer for number 1 (a guess based solely on hairstyle; knew it wasn't zooey, but had no idea what else it could be?).

anyway, after some searching, could picture 1 be from jerry macguire?

Brendon said...

That's still 3 out of 4, I'm afraid.

Your comment about the hairstyle amused me a lot and you'll find out why when the answer is revealed.

well, the jerry macguire guess: betsy heimann only worked on three movies that have been imdb-keyword-ed "sister" (picture is named, naturally, "big-sister.jpg"). jerry macguire, almost famous and stealing harvard (?; couldn't be?!!?).

anywho, another spitball (since hairstyle comments seemed to be amusing): get shorty?

otherwise, i'm out. have no idea. i've spent all day on this (and about zero on work)! that's what you (i.e., me) get for a) liking puzzles b) being a librarian and c) way into movies...

hopefully you reveal the answer soon so i can ease my addled brain.

The film in picture 1 is of a big sister - the big sister of the film's director.

This director has directed two of the wrong answers to have come up so far.

well, it must be vanilla sky for picture 1, directed by cameron crowe, featuring cindy crowe as herself, costume design by betsy heimann.

(again, vanilla sky, another film i haven't seen; now that i recall, i did see parts of jerry macguire...but i didn't enjoy much, nor do i enjoy much of cameron crowe's work post-say anything, except (a big except) almost famous.

now i see why i was "very very close with almost famous earlier, but, the hairstyle reference still eludes me...

(and hopefully the final answer didn't! thanks for the clues...)

You got it!

On the Almost Famous commentary track, Cameron and his mum talk about Cindy Crowe's hair and, if I recall, this was reprised in a discussion about this (very brief) shot in Vanilla Sky.

Another Quiz This coming up very soon.
