Movie Minesweeper - The Dash Dot Rash Edition

- Some highly coveted Indiana Jones info has leaked from a bit-part player. I saw the link at AintItCool. Meanwhile, George Lucas has practically confirmed that Abner Ravenwood has the Henry Jones Sr. role ... and - Spoiler Alert! - that he leaves the story early on. Oh.. and while we're on the subject, Cate Blanchett's character isn't a love interest for Indy. Apparently.

- Jim Broadbent is to play the new Potions (and lotions?) teacher at Hogwarts. Good.

- As expected, Zoe Saldana will be taking a Star Trek.

- Run Fatboy Run might be outperforming Superbad at the box office in England, but it certainly isn't the better film. It's okay. Well, okayish. Come on England - get out to Superbad. Not instead of Fatboy but as well.

- Samuel Bayer is directing the Near Dark remake.

- Harvey Weinstein found the Red State script to be 'disturbing' and 'challenging'.

- Josef Fares' Leo is to be the opening film of the Stockholm fest.

- Peter Hewitt's museum heist comedy The Lonely Maiden is to star Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken and William H. Macy. Chances are you don't
think much of Hewitt, but I'm a fan of a good handful of his films and I'm hopeful for this one

- Josh Gordon and Will Speck are in negotiations for the directing gig on Baster, an artificial insemination caper from a Jeffrey Eugenides story. Surprisingly, Allan Loeb wrote the screenplay.

- Love in the Time of Cholera is to premiere at the Rio fest.

- Naomi Campbell has a role in The Miracle at St. Anna, Spike Lee's World War 2 film.

- Matthew Vaughan has promised that his Thor will be a comic-book Thor, not a mythic one, appropriately enough.

- Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire are in the frame for Jim Sheridan's Brothers - as the titular siblings, of course. Sounds good to me.

- Wells Towers is to write and Miguel Arteta is to direct the film adaptation of Dave Eggers' You Shall Know Our Velocity!

- Persepolis is to represent France in the contest for the foreign language Oscar, while Finland are sending the male prostitution drama A Man's Job.

- Jeff King is to direct the cop vs. serial killers thriller A Higher Form of Learning, written by and starring Steven Seagal.

- Will Blu-Ray and HD DVD happily co-exist?

- Steve Buscemi and the estate of Luis de la Reguera have won their law suit against Small Planet Pictures. The contest was over the distribution rights to Rockets Redglare! That's two film titles ending with a ! in a single Minesweeper. How odd.

- Damian Shannon and Mark Swift are scripting a Friday the 13th remake, and in double quick strike-beating time. They also wrote Freddy vs. Jason which, in its own odd way is a classic.

- Peter Jackson considered, then turned down, Martin Freeman for a role in The Lovely Bones. Looks like that's probably where the Hobbit rumours started, eh?

- All of the Sex and the City main men are back for the film.

- Transformers 2 is to be a post-strike production. As we already knew. At least three times over.

- I was watching John Dahl's Joy Ride in bed last night. Did I ever tell you how much I love Steve Zahn? It's amazing what he does with the line "Shut up" in that film. Today I read that a sequel is on the cards. I sincerely hope Ted Levine reprises his role as the voice of Rusty Nail.

- Christopher Mintz-Plasse is undoubtedly the fella who shall forever be known as McLovin but he has got another role coming up - in David Wain's Little Big Men alongside Paul Rudd and Sean William Scott.
