Movie Minesweeper - The Blue And Red Marker Pens Edition

- Cartoon Brew have linked to an interesting video. An abandoned cave in Cody, Montana apparently bears the signature of Walt Disney. Could it really be real?

- Amy Pascal at Sony is softening us up for the future of the Spider-Man franchise: stand alone narratives with different creatives and, every now and then, a new actor in the lead. Spider-Man 4 is to be the On Her Majesty's Secret Service of the series, I suppose.

- Regal Cinema's Complain-o-tron is finally going wide.

- Mark Verheiden has the job of writing a Teen Titans movie. Who do you get to direct that? Not Victor Salva, obviously... but who?

- The remake of Midnight is to be written by Michael Arndt and will star Reese Witherspoon in the Claudette Colbert role. The original is really very, very, very good so, of course, I'm nervous about this but, well, Arndt and Witherspoon? Seems to be working out very well so far.

- After finishing Sugar, Ryan Fleck will adapt Special Topics in Calamity Physics from Marisha Pessl's novel. He's also attached to an adatation of Ned Vizzini's It's Kind of a Funny Story. I really have to track down Half Nelson and see if all of this is something to get excited about or not.

- The Weinsteins are to release Woody Allen's Cassandra's Dream. It was looking pretty hairy for the film for a while with no buyers stepping up (or at least, not as far as anybody knew) but at least it should get a decent release now.

- The remake of The Women is finally set to go ahead. I'm quite disappointed Todd Haynes isn't directing, but fingers crossed for Diane English anyway, despite her suspicious cast list: Meg Ryan, Eva Mendes, Jada Pinkett Smith, Anette Bening, Candace Bergen and Debra Messing.

Dreamachine

Hanway Films - financiers of the best film of 2006, Terry Gilliam's Tideland - and Celluloid Dreams - financiers of the best film of 2007 so far, Garth Jennings' Son of Rambow - have merged.

Variety announce that the new company will be called Dreamachine and have a library of 500 films. It will be run by Hengameh Panahi and Jeremy Thomas. Thomas will continue to produce films independently through The Recorded Picture Company, but these will then be handle by Dreamachine.

Upcoming films from the new super sales entity include Tom Kalin's Savage Grace, Ringo Lam, Tsui Hark and Johnnie To's Triangle, Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis and Todd Haynes' I'm Not There. Hopefully there'll be even more of this calibre to come now they've pooled dollars.

Looks like Cannes this year is going to be dominated by this wonderful new beast.

The Sounds Of I'm Not There

As well as a number of original Bob Dylan recordings, the soundtrack to Todd Haynes' rather unorthodox Zimmerman biopic I'm Not There will feature an intriguing set of cover versions.

The NME are listing: Stephen Malkmus doing Ballad of a Thin Man and Maggie's Farm; The Hold Steady doing Can You Please Crawl Out Of Your Window?; Calexico and Willie Nelson teaming up on Senor (Tales of Yankee Power).

PJ Harvey and Michael Stipe are also likely to show up, though the piece has no idea what songs they'd be covering.

Todd Haynes In The Loop

I'm Not There is Todd Haynes apparently unconventional biopic of Bob Dylan, featuring several actors both male and female, in the role of the music legend (but neither, I believe, Hayden Christensen or a Barbie Doll take a turn). The Weinsteins have just announced that they will be distributing the film - if that's gonna be okay with Bob. Wouldn't be surprised to see some hissy from him now, a little bit of Factory Girl retalliation aimed at the Brothers W.
