Hiatus

film ick is going on hiatus. We will return on Monday 29th October with... some new ideas and new ways of doing things. Most of these will be behind the scenes, so up front, it'll still be the devil you know. More or less.

And, no - I'm not going on holiday.

And once these wrinkles are ironed out, we'll be back in business 24/7. Yep - all film ick, all the time.

Why in the world would you kill the movie minesweeper? I can't imagine this site needing much improvement, since I come here daily .. or, at least I did, but if things change much just for the sake of change that will certainly change .. Here's hoping not!

None of the changes will be happening just for change's sake. There's a very good reason for each of them.

What's more, they can only make this a better site.

I hope so Brendon. I still miss the Sweeper as it is. Best of luck to ya' anyways.

Unless something goes horribly wrong, I'll be back on the 29th. In the meantime, please leave any comments here about what you would like to see change/stay the same.

I thought this was amazing as it was (which was why I started coming here a few months ago and kept coming back every day since), but I recognize the need for behind the scenes retooling.

Minesweeper was always a highlight. I think what I loved most of all was your commentary. You're very sharp, witty, and while I don't always agree (I'm a big Spielberg fan), I LOVE how you stick to your guns. Don't lose the unique "voice" of this column.

I enjoy the fact that the minesweeper news manages to cover a range of industry stuff culled from the trades AND covers the range of film geek gossip - honestly, the breadth of info covered is really great and I hope this doesn't disappear...

I don't mean to come off as one of those creepy 'keep it all the same' types, but the Minesweeper really was one of the highlights of my RSS feed. It doesn't have to be the same, but keep up the great commentary on quick newsfeed-style tidbits in some form or another.

Looking forward to Film Icks return, personally I always thought the Minesweeper was the best part.

i want to know why you are changing a formula that works

Simple really - it takes hours out of my day, most days and, honestly, I don't have the time anymore. I wish I did.

Note that there's no advertising around here. I don't make any money out of this (though that would be nice, of course it would).

I can't give my entire life over to film ick, as much as I'd like to... I have other projects - projects you'll all hopefully be very interested in and look to support.

So I'm trying to change the way film ick ends up on the page, not the look or feel of it once it is there.

But we need you NOW more than ever, man! With Saw 4 coughing up $32 million over the weekend, the world NEEDS somebody to point and laugh at Nikki Finke.

Apparantly, there are more "sickos" in the world than Nikki anticipated. Luckily there's this strike thing to keep her attention away from this fact.

Seeing as it's noon Monday, Oct. 29, if I have my across-the-pond time change right, so where's Film Ick? Please come back!

Not only that, but there are big, distracting ads for Saw IV all over Deadline Hollywood Daily. Doubt they have anything to do with Nikki, but at least it seems like someone has a sense of humour over there.

I mean, it can't be a coincidence, right...?
