Crash Lawsuit Raises A Smile

Bob Yari, one of the producers of Crash, isn't being recognised as such - so he's going to the courts to sort it out. Come Sunday when the film doesn't win the Oscar for best film, his name won't be on the golden man that won't get handed out - and he's not happy about this.

He claims that he was denied "fair process" in trying to remedy this, and has turned to the Los Angeles superior court to rule that the Producers Guild of America and Academy of Motion pictures Arts and Sciences must identify those who denied him the credit. I suppose he'd quite like to know where they live, too, when they'll next be out and where they hide their spare key.

I wish Bob Yari could get his dues. He put money up for the film, so let him wear the albatross if he so chooses!

But nope, instead, he's getting counter sued.

Cathy Schulman and Tom Nunan are the 'real" producers of Crash. I hope they're proud of themselves. Their suit alleges that Mr. Yari has witheld millions of dollars of profits, slurred their reputations and used Crash - which they are herein calling a joint venture, which proves Yaris point, if you ask me - to give his own personal interests a leg up.
Pair of hypocrites.

Yari's portfolio of projects is not only far more extensive than Schulman and Nunan's, it includes a number of strong films with which they haven't been involved. Again, a tick in the Bob Yari column.

The just desserts that all will be forced to swallow is the inevitable Oscars defeat of Crash by such a mediocrity as Brokeback Mountain. Crash is nothing more than a dreadful mess of second rate ideas and second hand scenes, bolted together with no concern for subtlety, nuance or the intelligence of its audience, and is far less deserving of any special recognition than even the frontrunning Cowboy couple.
