Yet Another Casting Call: The Spiderwick Chronicles

At your local Borders, The Spiderwick Chronicles will be shelved with all those Harry Potter and Lemony Snicket books, and I dare say that's all you really need to know. Some of you have probably reached for the mouse to scroll out of this post already, while some others of you may well have added the books to your shopping list. Either way, the books are coming to the big screen, and Paramount are looking for the kid stars of tomorrow (and the day after, but most likely not much longer than that) to fill some key parts.

Again, this casting call is looking for identical twin boys. A website has been set up to offer more details and drum up some very early hype for the project.

Mark Waters, the film's director, is the brother of Daniel Waters, screenwriter of Heathers and the upcoming Sex and Death 101. That'd give me nightmares - knowing how much more talented my brother is, even though I'm the one getting the better paid and higher profile jobs.

The script for Spiderwick has been written for John Sayles, and he's very good at properly paced, wittily detailed genre pieces. He's even better at the-personal-is-political, lower budget dramas. That makes this a class B Sayles project, but any Sayles project is better than none.
