Spider-Man 3 Teaser Trailer

[EDIT: Since this was posted, there have been many more Spider-Man 3 stories on film ick for you to enjoy. Take a look around]

Go see the Spider-Man 3 teaser trailer. Now. What do you reckon?

Personally, I have little doubt that Spider-Man 3 is going to use me as an emotional ashtray - and I can't wait.

Want to know how many of these shots actually figure into the film overall? This is all real, genuine, big spoiler stuff.

"Read on if you dare..."

Where does Venom come from? Well, the symbiote clings to Peter after a date with MJ - like gum on his shoe to begin with, almost. As he sleeps, covers him - we see this in the trailer. When he wakes up, he's hanging upside down on the side of a building - much like the final shot in the teaser. It's the old werewolf thing - but used to dramatise Peter's internal conflict. Venom adopts an appearance like the red/blue Spidey suit because Peter is wearing it when it covers him - though he's not wearing the mask, so there's a little dramatic license at play. Tut tut - can do better, Mr. Raimi. See me after class.

Before getting on Peter, the symbiote has a rather 50's sci-fi origin, not unlike that of The Blob. It looks like Raimi has had a lot of fun with this element of the story.

Okay - back to the plot. How does Eddie Brock become Venom? Well, when Spidey is "caught" by the symbiote, Brock follows this Venom character to a church bell tower. He's both trying to upstage Peter's coverage in the Bugle, and also twist the knife into Spidey. Here, Peter manages to overcome the symbiote and rip himself free of the suit, but some of it falls onto Brock. That is, of course, all he needs to soon "become" Venom. We see plenty of shots from this sequence in the teaser, including Brock's discovery of who is inside the suit just before the symbiote gets onto him.

The Venom-Brock does not look exactly like the Venom-Spidey, but more organic, more like the comic book Venom. This is, apparently, due to the fact that Spidey had the red/blue suit on, Brock does not. Peter's split into two-halves in so many ways (Peter/Spidey, Spidey/Venom-Spidey, Peter/Dark Peter) that it would get confusing if the metaphorical values of each wasn't so clear.

For most of the film, Spider-Man is in pursuit of Flint Marko, The Sandman, but we begin with an early Green Goblin/Spider-Man show-down - some of which is seen in the trailer - shot at night-time, Harry's face is exposed clearly in most shots, you see him fly into the wall fist first. It is only at the end of the film that Spidey faces off against Venom. Thankfully, Harry herein comes to his aid in Green Goblin guise, showing that he too has won his own internal conflict much like Peter has. Hurrah for Harry.

Sadly, though, Harry is killed. Tears for Harry.

Aunt May also dies within he film's running time. Trust me, you don't want to know when and where.

Apparently, MJ does NOT die. I know I was expecting her to go, but if she does, it is somehow being kept an even bigger secret than the rest of these details.

All the business in the trailer with the ring? Well, apparently, there's much ado about that piece of jewellery - and at one point, it even ends up in a pawn shop. The romance storylines from 1 and 2 are every bit as much of 3 - maybe more so.
The Venom-Brock villain is conclusively dispatched, though the symbiote itself survives - so whatever hack is handed the series after Raimi leaves (taking Maguire and Dunst with him, no doubt) will be able to resurrect some kind of Venom villain.

Dark Spidey, as it were - Peter before he has overcome Venom - is the one who courts Gwen Stacey. Problems in the relationship with MJ, as well as professional issues - both as a photographer and crime-fighting webslinger, as it were - compound to bring him down. Real down. Even downer than last time. That's how Raimi, Sargent and co are using Venom - as a dramatic device to show Peter not just giving up on his great responsibility, but getting drunk on his great power.

Venom-Spidey fights some robbers, The Sandman and the Green Goblin before Peter dispels it in the bell-tower.

There are scenes inside Curt Connor's lab, where he studies the symbiote, and these scenes are also used to set up the research that will, in the character's story - though not in this movie - turn him into The Lizard. Take these teasing references more as tantalising morsels for the fanboy piranhas than concrete set-up for any subsequent film, however.

Spidey's fights with the Sandman not only take place in the Armoured Car chase so well covered on this blog (I was on set for much of the shooting) but also, I am told, in the subway. The final fight, the four-way rumble with Spidey, The Sandman, Venom and Harry as the Green Goblin, takes place in a construction site.

The extra villain that everybody has been speculating about makes only a fleeting appearance, and then only in a very off-hand but amusing way. Bruce Campbell's character this time around is Quentin Beck - known to fans of the comic as Mysterio. Again, don't take this as set-up for a subsequent film, but if anybody ever does put Mysterio in a film and NOT cast Bruce Campbell, they'll have hell to pay.

And of course, this also cleverly shines a new light on Campbell's two previous cameo appearances. Hilarious.

I can now confirm that the Black Cat does not make any significant appearance in the film, despite existing, on paper, in various earlier conceptions. She appears to have been removed for and replaced with Gwen Stacey. She was there for "Dark Peter" to romance, but Stacey was possibly considered a better choice as the franchise will need a new sweetheart now Dunst has made her intentions to depart clear.

I don't know how much i believe this, considering i work on the film and know that the scene of peter hanging at the end of the trailer was shot just for the trailer and isn't in the film, yet you claim it is.

Brendon said...

Nope - I don't. I say SIMILAR to this shot.

My sources also work on the film.

Believe it. All of it.

Like it alot...its good to have someone on the inside to give us the lowdown...and that 4th baddie...woah....great work :)

When the elements of the plot first started leaking out to sites like AICN, I was skeptical. Too much crammed into one movie. Weak villains chosen over better ones from Spidey's history. Curious casting choices (Theresa Russell as The Black Cat? Great actress, still a hell of a looker, but... Huh?).

Yet all it took was one teaser trailer and I'm a believer again. Dammit!

However, when Raimi, Dunst, et al leave the franchise, how long before it falls into the hands of a hack like Ratner or Johnson and ends up utterly strip-mined of credibilty?

And dammit, casting Topher Grace as Venom in this one means he can't be cast as Peter after Maguire walks! D'Oh!

Can you tell me more about the ORIGIN of the symbiote, does it come from outerspace, a meteorite or was it man-made?

Also, the shot in the trailer where Spider-Man is hanging upside down is that in the movie? Does it actually show the two version (Red-blue/Black) in that scene, or is the reflection in the mirror black like his suit?

Also, what happens at the end of the movie, after the final battle, what are the last 5 minutes, and the very end before the film fades to black?

Brendon said...

Okay - let me clarify a couple of points.

First of all, the shot in the trailer with the red/blue reflection to the black Spidey - well, several people suggest it isn't in the film, just in the teaser - which sounds about right. I never claimed it was in the film. Frankly, I don't think it should be - it's a great, punchy teaser image, but not necesarily appropriate to the movie. But the Venom-Spidey DOES come-to, upside-down, on the side of a building.

As regards the last five minutes of the film... well, that's a disputed call. I have been given various leads on what MIGHT happen, none of them as rigorously fact-checked as the material above - but the fact of the matter is, I'm afraid, the film still hasn't finished shooting and there's all of post-production ahead of us.

But rest assured the plot business with that ring is going to get tied up one way or another, right?

Anonymous said...

So in the end it is all about ... the one ring ? *eg*

Anonymous said...

You still haven't answered my question, in regards to the origin of the symbiote, where does it come from, outerspace or was it man-made? How did it come to be?

It has to come from somewhere, and if it did come from a meteorite, is it shown in the film it falling to Earth or from John Jameson's space mission?

Anonymous said...

Excellent job, brendon. I very much like the insider info. It actually makes me want to see the movie that much more. I want to see how the actual movie plays out the scene you described.

The black spidey costume is sweet. I suspect the symbiote arrives onboard a meteorite much like how the blob did. Which is cool. It's not like in the comics with the whole secret wars arch. But it keeps the origin of the symbiote alien for the most part.

I can't wait to see how venom looks like on topher. I hope it's not all CG. A variation of the spidey suit would be cool on topher (he looks like he has a similar body build to tobey).

Also, it would be interesting to see how mary jane exits from the series. I would rather see the character killed off then see another actress take over dunst's role.

fantastic scoop! it also matches up nicely with the allgedy FAQs released a dew months back. I am a believer.

None of this sounds too far fetched. I am going to see the movie no matter what. It might be petty but I am REALLY disappointed in the symbiote costume I wish that they would have brought that distinct look from the comic to the movie as opposed to slapping a few coats of black paint onto the red & blue

Brendon said...

Regarding how the synbiote gets to earth... well, I have been given an answer. But I'm not sharing it. Yet.

First of all, I have to check it out fully with a second source. I also have to check out some info I've been given about Theresa Russel's character, about The Sandman's ultimate fate and a little something about Gwen Stacey and her father.

But once it has checked out - if it does check out - I dare say I'll be running that story here also.

Brendon said...

That's symbiote with an m, by the way. Sorry.

Anonymous said...

Though producer Avi Arad acknowledged that the symbiote will appear as the blacked-out Spidey costume on Tobey, he strongly hinted that Venom will appear wearing the all-black, white-spider logo suit from the comics.
See below:

iF: Why not the black costume from the comic with the big white spider?
ARAD: We reserved the white spider for something else.

Nice blog, I really appreciate all of the info you are giving us :)

It's sad that they are no expanding on the Lizard storyline (Dr. Conners). They did the same in the X-Men series with hinting at Gambit and many other characters on the PC screen, but they never appeared. I am liking the idea of Mysterio as a villain, he always played with Spidey's head, but I'd also like to see the Rhino and/or chameleon as villains. Especially the Chameleon, manipulating Spidey's life and pretending to be Uncle Ben, etc.

Thoughts... :)

The sybiote costume came from the "Secret Wars" issue No#8 where many of Earth's villians and heroes were abducted by a being called the Beyonder that needed to know which side was stronger. He needed to understand the difference between good and evil and their motivation to fight. He couldnt comprehend morality, he just saw opposites.

Spidey's costume got destroyed in a fight and they had a costume regenerator at one of the facilities. He got on a different machine and out came the symbiote in a ball of black. It spread out across his body to mirror SpiderWoman's costume which he admired. Believing the suit was created from his imagination from what the machine gathered.

He later realized that it controlled from his thoughts to expose any parts he needed so he didnt have to change to eat or what have you. Later he realized it had chameleon powers to don anything he imagined. He also became stronger and later more aggressive.

The symbiote too had never experienced human emotions and fell in love with Peter like a protective dog. It attempted to bond with him to be complete. At first it took control of Peter while he slept being a full vigilante, hurting people rather than stopping. Peter would wake up on a building with chaos happening or news reports that he did something bad.

It tried to communicate to him in dreams where he got scared and got Reed Richards involved. Peter through test realized that it couldnt take sonic assaults. Peter went to a bell tower to remove it where he and it almost died. Eddie Brock followed spidey and came across the sybiote. It was weak and took Eddie over. He hated Peter and the symbiote hated Peter. He accepted the bonding with the symbiote to become the new Venom persona. To bond with it meant giving up individuality to become a new being. Eddie took years to gain control of the symbiote. Eddie knows everything about Peter and he is the only person that Peter's Spider sense cant work on becasue of the symbiote making Venom he most deadly enemy. Peter had to fake his death to stop Venom from enacting his revenge.

Honestly, I would prefer a 4th film. Through Peter's struggles with his "dark side", relationships, fighting off the bad guys, I feel that crunching all of that into one film might shortchange the fans/audience. I was hoping that Peter overcame his demons at the end, and Topher becomes venom near the end of the film, setting up a 4th (even though it was eluded that Venom remains alive).

It originally stated in the IMDB summary that the suit was brought back from space by J Jameson Jr., and now has been slightly changed to a simple one-liner saying "from the moon." Not sure why they changed it, but its definately from space, and not the Ultimate Spiderman variation. (Which is a relief.)

Anonymous said...

Everything about the symbiote, with the exception of the origin is straight out of the first few issues of a now defunct comic called "Web of Spiderman." None of this is creative license.

The true origin of the suit is so Highly SciFi, that there is now way that Raimi can really refer to it. For comics fans, please go get your copies of the very first Secret Wars, where Spidey gets the symbiote (He thinks its a new costume) after he gets his ripped all over during a huge melee. He gets it from a machine that supposedly fixes everything (including a cracked Captain America's shield...yes I said cracked).
It's good to see Raimi really paying attention to the details of the comic stories. Even though the timing of different parts of the stories may have been happened in different eras in the comics (Gwen Stacey in the 70's and Symbiote in the late 80's) it seems that Raimi was able to blend this well and make it work. That is great to here.

Wizardraz

I wonder if he handles Gwen's death in the movie.

Any hints about Carnage. I have to know.

Brendon said...

HInts on Carnage? Yeah, here's the pretty big hint I keep hearing: No Carnage. Same hint I keep hearing about the Hobgoblin.

Here's a hint on what the Venom white-spider was "reserved for" - I've been told what, and, of course, it is something in this film, not in another one.

That's all the hinting you will need.

I'm a little surprised by Mary Jane NOT dying - it will be interesting to see what plays out here.

Also, do we know at what point in the film the whole clocktower scene takes place? I'm curious as to how long Pete has the symbiote and also how big a part Venom has in this film.

I too am curious about the pumpkin bomb scene - also wondering if Harry takes the serum or just wears the suit/glider.

Does anyone else think that Eric from "That 70's Show" is alittle..well..crappy for the Venom part. Whatever happened to rumors of Van Diesel. My god! That would rule! But some weak guy who looks almost like spidey. Venom was "I crush things with big rock." Not skinny and agile like Spidy. Also...Black Cat...Should be Faith from Buffy....

Why oh why Eric as Venom!?

I think the origin of venom comes from the travel of jameson son to space. He brongs the "thing" with him.

Wow, that guy is pretty angry and for no good real reason. If Raimi does leave this series along with Dunst and Maguire, why would they try to make a fourth one? To me, that seems like a very stupid decision. You can't just re-cast a role because Maguire is Spiderman. Anyways, that's just my thoughts. If Dunst does leave, she should be killed off, but then there'd be way too many deaths and it wouldn't make sense.

sounds wicked cool.i hope carnage is in the 4th movie.hes my favorite villain.but i hope they dont stop making these moviesand also try to make a ultimate spiderman movie.

i deny to believe this. Venom-Brock must be in the 4th. VENOM IS THE AWESOMEST CHARACTER EVER! NO, no, no, denied.

Brendon, I'm not sure about your sources. Some of it is true like Harry's death, the construction site four-way battle, bell tower scene, Gwen Stacy, etc. But you forgot about the pivotal role Quentin Beck plays in the screenplay. As I recall you said something like it was a fleeting cameo or something. This is inaccurate and I know because I work at a company that supplied some stunt cars for the film and I read the script while I was there. HUGE SPOILERS HERE From what I read, Beck was implied to be in some way responsible for Aunt May's death and the Reptile, or Dr. Connors, sort of confirmed it in a passing line he had. So hopefully, Brendon, you won't leave those major details out. END SPOILERS

For those of you who think that was a pumpkin bomb being thrown at Harry in the teaser, think again and go get your eyes checked. And yes Vin Deisel as Venom would be awesome.

question: if harry dies, it must be in the final battle right? I've heard that he'll die while commiting a last act of redemption (fighting on Spider-Man's side).

Anonymous said...

ewww you peoeple are absolutely stupid if you think in anyway that vin diesel would make a good venom... or a good actor for any movie... that guy couldnt play a tree in a school play.

Anonymous said...

is it true raimi is leaving?

Anonymous said...

hey, anonymous, you're a dumbass. What do you mean "if you think thats a pumpkin bomb being thrown at harry you need to get you're eyes checked". I have the teaser saved on my compter. You can pause it, slow-mo it, print it, do whatever you want! It is a pumpkin bomb being thrown at him. And if you look behind him, you see the shelves that were behind the mirror in harry's house at the end of spidey 2! And there are pumpkin bombs on those shelves!!!

Anonymous said...

Out of curiosity, who is that throwing the pumpkin bomb at Harry's face. Venom-Spiderman? And as for the symbiote, it obviously doesnt have the comic book orgin, seeing as there was no secret wars in the movie-verse, so what is it's orgins? Brought from space by Jameson Jr. as in the 90's cartoon?

Gradwell Sears said...

Random observation. I know Topher Grace is supposed to be Eddie Brock. It fits into the story-line, the trailer, etc. But did anyone notice that the villain flying around on the board has the same colored hair as Grace, and maybe the same jacket? Same splotchy blond patches, and short. Whereas Harry... doesn't. I don't know, but it's something that struck me.

Brendon said...

I don't know where in the trailer you think you saw, say, Quentin Beck, or the Blob-style symbiote origin.

It's all 100%.

Anonymous said...

I'll agree with the fella who showed this example:

http://www.the3rddesign.com/sm3/

Which makes me wonder, what the hell is he wearing? Looks like some scuba goggles. And It does appear that, from that point of view, HarryOsborn is a little bit.. how should I say.. Fucked? As if ONE bomb wasn't enough... Unless he has the serum, then I could understand how he would survive. This movie does look awesome.

Also, about the white spider thing.. Maybe harry could wear that like some kind of Anti-Spiderman costume or something. I'm looking forward to finding out!

Brendon said...

Yes, you'll see webs emerging from the symbiote clad one.

Note how the symbiote actually looks kinda... webby itself?

can you hook me up with some internship job cause i rlly wanna get into the movie buisiness?
And dude you keep on truckin, dont let some negative nancy put u down, you got all these supporters and ppl behind you. And plz publish some more spoilers.
Also are they done with actual filming and just putting in cgi sound fx and voice overs

Hello, i'm a big fan of Spider-man. Some of my thoughts on the trailer is: I did not like the symbonite costume that Spider-man was wearing. It looks exactly the same as his red/blue costume only with black. It was rather dissappointing to see it. I wish they would have shown us Venom but there was other rumors about the crew not having the film finished yet. I was also very dissappointed hearing rumors about Mysterio being in the next film. Although you may all have your own oppinions I understand that... but why would you put Mysterio? I mean he doesn't actually posess any powers. All he is is a science freak thats all... I would also like to ask upon the one scene in the trailer where Harry has a bomb comming directly at him, does that mean the Hob Goblin is comming into the next film or does he just really have bad aim? I hope the Hob Goblin doesn't show his appearance in the next film... we've had enough of Goblins, plus I personally think that 3 villians is enough. You don't want to overwhelm your audience. If I were Sam I would save them for another possible film. I know a lot of you might not agree with what I have just said but those we just my oppinions... Joseph Moavro

Anonymous said...

Love the spoiler but I think im more confused now that i read them then b4 i did. The question about the pumpkin bomb and harry goes unanswered and i dunno about this Mysterio thing?
~confused~

Anonymous said...

My two cents on the pumpkin bomb being thrown at Harry, I think that it is probably a scene where Harry begins to lose his mind and Norman comes back in a vision to tell him how weak and pathetic he is which leads Harry to take the serum and become,(and I hate to call him this because he is supposed to be Green Goblin 2), Hobgoblin. Also that is Harry on the glider not Topher Grace, you should be able to clearly see that. I really want to know why he doesn't have a full cotume though. Why would he choose regular clothes and a Green Hornet mask when his father did all the work to create the suit. I think it would be cool if he had taken the suit and repainted it and used a different mask along with a cape so that it looked more like Hobgoblin.

NO MORE SPIDEY FILMS! end it on top please. i am already worried that spidey 3 will let me down. there might be too many characters being introduced and too many stories to be told. that was the problem with X3. plus you lose your director and your major stars and alls you are left with is a shell. I am a huge spider-man fan (marvel fan in general) and it really doesn't matter where the venom suit comes from thats not the point. plus it doesn't matter that brock is skinny eric from 70's show because the suit is a shape shifter it can be big and buff if it wants to be. also if you read ultimate spider-man Brock is scrawny. The movies take their own liberties do yourself a favor and don't compare look at the movies as a whole new ball game trust me you'll enjoy them alot more. The trailer does make it look sweet but it is a trailer its supposed to make it look great. all in all if the story is done right it will be amazing if it is too packed tight like X3 it will be a let down

About the pumpjin bomb being thrown at Harry scene, did you ever consider some how Norman came back and tried to kill Harry after he possibly told him he would join Spider man???

On a side note I'm surprised no one else said this before, this person who claims to be Tobey Mcguire you are not Tobey Mcguire.( Sorry to most of you because I'm stating the obvious)If you are Tobey Mcguire I want proof.

Anonymous said...

This is totally conjecture. If it's not, then how did you get this info? If you worked on the film then you are completly disrespecting it and the filmmakers. I could make all the assumptions you've made on my own, if you're going to tell people "this is true. 100%" then give your readers some proof or justification. How would you know that Harry Osbourne dies? Have you read the screenplay, were you there everyday? Back up your theories otherwise no one will take you seriously. If your just making this stuff up, then you should get a life instead of trying to get ppl to believe you.
I also think that if this was true some one from the studio GUARANTEED would have deleted this posting, you'd be giving away far too much. Either they haven't seen it or they know it's completly false. Give us some proof and maybe we'll believe you. Otherwise, start writing about things you actually know about.

Brendon said...

My source is related to the production. They gave me this info before the teaser trailer, some of it trickled out elsewhere before this full volley, then the teaser trailer came, eventually, and I was at last 100% certain every word was true.

My source has since verified their relationship to the production very clearly. VERY clearly.

I know this info is 100%.

Any changes you might see in the finished film are changes made since early June this year, when the film was already deep into principle photography. Don't expect any changes to be significant.

Anonymous said...

ok, so if venom is used and finished in the film, and the goblin arc is finished, you think raimi will continue with the symbiote (carnage) or goblin (hobgoblin) ideas in later movies if he decides to make more? or will he opt for fresh villain ideas (i.e. lizard, kraven, scorpion, electro, mysterio, etc)

Anonymous said...

so... how exactly DOES the Venom symbiote come to be in this film?

Anonymous said...

You know, you still haven't given us any real proof that the source is related to the production. All you say is "100%". It's one thing to say that it's related to the production, another to actually prove

Anonymous said...

some how it ends up in centeral park and it clings to the bottom of peters shoe after a date with MJ

Anonymous said...

Ok as far as mysterio goes they could use him for the next movie if they wanted after all they already showed us the doc who by the way was in the original ver. of the senister six. and the revised (second Version) version in the 90s Cartoon. My point is there was only one other charter in both groups of six and that is none other than MYSTERIO. As for Dunst leaving, maybe she is maybe shes not remember that shes not the only wemon of peter life. she might not appear in the next movie or maybe have a smaller part. Also to bring the black cat in would set up a part for Felcia Havey. If they use the Senister Six however it will most likely be the Doc. Mysterio, Camo. scorp. rino. shock. but i just an intense Comic/spidy Fan and dont actually know how hollywood will destroy another good comic however im at least glad they havent completly fucked spidy. the way they did Xmen. ps capt.America Would be the next best choice for marvel to put back on the big screen, then Ironman would be nice. thanks for your time.

Brendon said...

The only proof I could offer today would expose my source.

The best thing to do is to wait until the movie opens. Then you'll see how accurate this all was.

This is my idea.
The first ten minutes is Jameson Jr. coming back from the moon, symbiote on board.Within the next ten minutes, the symbiote finds who else, you're friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.The next five minutes is the revealing of Harry, as I heard somewhere that he's neither Green Goblin 2 nor Hobgoblin, but simply Harry, in a suit.He basically sends out his henchman, Mysterio, to find Spider-Man.The next fifteen minutes is Spidey's first fight in the black suit.He fights Sandman, but Marco escapes. The next 20 minutes is the stunning Gwen Stacy's first appearance, at a dance club. But soon, when Spidey's in the suit, something consumes him, and he basically becomes Venom, without the drooling. The second villain, PeterParker himself, is born. Within a 25 period, this and the merciless killing of Mysterio happens. Next, Peter runs to ask MJ to marry him, but he is swooped upped by Harry. Peter puts on the symbiote, becoming Venom, steels a bomb, throws it at Harry, and Harry's dead.Peter runs to a church tower and tries to take of the symbiote, succeeding. Meanwhile, after an epic church entrance, Eddie Brock is ready for suicide, when bang, here comes a symbiote. It consumes Eddie Brock creating full fledged, sharped toothed, drooling Venom. That all happens in 30 minutes.Within a thirty minute period, the following happens. Venom reveals himself to The Sandman, and the two brawl, fighting over who gets to kill Spider-Man. Venom bites this Sandy figure and goes to kill others, killing Aunt May in the process. Then on top of a roof and sits, looking for Spider-Man. For five minutes Spider-Man creates a new suit, with golden lines. The next 25 minutes is basically just fighting between Venom and Spidey, in which Spidey wins. For the last five minutes it depends on if theres a sequal or not. If thers no segual it ends in a very sweet wedding between Peter and Mary Jane. If there is a sequal, then on a dark rooftop, a very Venom like creature appears, looking for a fight. Carnage is born, roll credits. Tell me what you think.

Everything Brendon said is completely true and I back him on it. But I just want to know one thing, why is Harry Osbourne being called Hobgoblin by everybody wasn't he Green Goblin 2 or something in the comics. I was pretty sure that Hobgoblin was Harrys uncle Ned Leeds or something closce to that. Brendon or someone else who knows what they're talking about please give a real answer.

This sounds pretty good. We have Green Goblin II as the villain that turns good in the end, Venom as the anti-hero, Mysterio as a cameo villain (it makes sense, it gives a scene where Dark Spidey can really let loose on a villain without making one of the main 3 seem weak) and Sandman as the main villain with a tie in to Gwen and a romance angle hanging there. It all fits nicely from what I can see.

If the movies continue (it'd be hard since Spiderman and Mary Jane are leaving unless it will be a Venom movie), then next time we might see Black Cat, Hobgoblin (could have Hobgoblin competing with Spidey on the Felicia love angle), The Lizard, Carnage and maybe Electro too to come in and challenge Spiderman and Venom, but that might be a bit too much to fit into one film. (although Electro and Carnage are more about having badass powers than having a human story angle, so it cuts down on the necessary film time for them by a bit.)

I know there are a lot of other Spiderman villians that could be fun, Kraven, Prowler, Scorpion, Rhino and Shocker amongst them (although the last 3's movie character angles were covered in the video games, I think), I just don't know that they have quite the flash or impact on Spiderman as the ones listed above. They could all work as some kind of high tech task force working for SkyLabs in a 5th movie which would give you a large number of villains on the same side as opposed to the 3rd movie and the 4th I am suggesting above where the villians have as much reason to pound on each other as they do on Spiderman.

Anonymous said...

There were two Hobgoblins - Roderick Kingsley and Jason Macendale. Ned Leeds (no relation to the Osborns as far as I know) was a reporter who was set up. He was dressed in the suit and murdered to fool the public into believing Leeds was Hobby.

When Kingsley retired, Macendale gave up his original identity as Jack O'Lantern and took the Hobgoblin identity as his own.

whether or not these spoilers are true, if venom is introduced and dispatched in this movie, i'd be thoroughly disappointed in raimi and sony. 4 villians in one film? Batman & Robin anyone? X3?

sandman as the main villian should be enough to satisfy fans, not to mention the harry 'villian-turned-good-at-the-last-minute' side plot.

there was 1 main villian in SM1 & SM2 and both of those movies were great...but 4 villians?

and from the apparent spoilers, it seems that venom, the fan favorite, will get only 30? 60 minutes of screen time? there will be no background to his character. SM3 should set up the hatred eddie has towards peter and set the stage for a spiderman/venom faceoff. honestly, who cares about sandman, mysterio, the lizard when compared to the likes of venom?

sure, SM3 will most likely break POTC2's box office record, but if it sets the stage for venom in SM4, i guarantee SM4 will set an unbeatable mark.

my 2 cents.

Sounds really good. Though I am making a Spider-Man 4 script (which is just for fun) and the villains in the script are: Cletus Kasady/Carnage, Quentin Beck/Mysterio, and the Lizard. Though I just read this now and it's weird that most villains that I picked for my script will probably appear in SM3 and I didn't even knew that until now.

Thanks. :)

thanx brendon!! thats all that needs to be said, if what u say is true that is!!!!!!

wow...so who here is older than 18??????

ill make this quick.....if this was true brendens buddies would be fired for breaching a contract that prohibits film crew of any kind from leaking plot details out. second this forum if accurate would have been taken down. third my brother had a paramedic role in the fantastic 4 sequal and had a chat with some of the marvel execs and he read this and told me what he was allowed to and that was that this is all bull crap. i know nothing myself however this claim to an accurate script is void!

Brendon said...

My friend has remained anonymous throughout. There are dozens of people - at least a couple of dozen, I'd guess - who have all of this info, and he could be any one of them. So, unless they are going to fire a whole swathe of people...

As regards Sony trying to get me to take this info down... well, who says they haven't tried, hey? But I'm not doing anything illegal and I don't owe them anything... so they can't exactly blackmail me.

As regards Marvel execs talking to a medic on the F4 set... well... I'm quite doubtful about that...

well to your last comment the word tath we are looking for is daily wrap parties where cast and crew do in fact mingle like human beings. buddy your not living in a comic a job title does not segregate its self from every working part no matter how small. me being the fan of marvel and a little annoying brother asked him (older sibling) to help me with some contacts so when i graduate from my makeup fx and prostectic class i will be able to work in a familliar field.my brother has also stated that you may have friends on the inside but they can also be yanking your chain to sustain the deliberate element of surprise. for instance my brother was told to convince me that silver surfer was going to be blue for a period of the film..... and i beleived it coz of the source. and as for a production company firing a whole slew of crew ya dont matter who they are if they arent crucial roles in the flick i beleive the word for this would be dime a dozzzzzen

I concur with the guy that said I can't believe I read that. Let me get this strait, two of you have connections to the film project, and one of you is Tobey McGuire?

I shouldn't even comment, but I can't help it. First of all to the guy who says he has connections to the film, but "Sony can't make him take it down." You don't work for the film industry or have any connections, because if you break a gag order, you would be blacklisted out of Hollywood fast.

If it is your friend/connection feeding you this information, the same would happen to him. As for the guy who says he is Tobey McQuire, all I have to say is what is with the pathological lies? You are a guy that likes Spiderman. Do you think Tobey McQuire is sitting around on these blogs? He probably doesn't even think that much about Spiderman. He is too busy dating models. All three of you are lying.

Spiderman 2 was a great film, the best Superhero film imo. It had a nice happy ending, and in this case, the pumping out of sequals might ruin it. Spiderman 3 may be a good film, but it is already in danger of suffering the fate of the original Batman Franchise by having too many villains. Clearly there are only three, not five. Just because a blonde is in it does not mean it is Gwen Stacey, even though it probably is. There is no chance "Black Cat" or "Mysterio," will make an appearance. Can you imagine how scattered a script that would be? Also, there wont be a Spiderman 4 anytime soon without Dunst, McQuire, or Raime.

These are the villains, obviously. The guy from The Seventies Show as Venom. The guy from Wings as Sandman, and they should have left sandman out. The third is Harry as the Green Goblin. The Green Goblin has already been done in Spiderman 1, so it runs the risk of repetativeness. In the comics Harry pulled peter out of a burning building, and before Harry Died Peter asked him why he saved him. Harry replied, "Because your my best friend." Now that is a good ending, and that will probably happen.

The Gwen Stasey Romance thing is a bad idea, yes I know it was in the comics, but part of the appeal of Spiderman 2 was it was romantic. Nor all fighting and special effects. An all special effects film is doomed. The reason that Spiderman 2 recieved such good reviews is it had a Human Story also.

Two more comments. If Aunt May Dies some sort of grizzly death that would ruin the film. There is really no need for her to be in this one. No Mary Jane will not die. Gwen Stasey did in the comics, but it would be to much of a side plotline for film.

My last comment, the most important thing in movies is acting ability. Vin Deisal is one of the stupidest worst actors to walk the planet. If he was cast in it it would be ruined. Why should he be Venom? Because he is muscular? Tobey MgGuire is a great Peter Parker, in the second film he was not particuliarly muscular. Also Topher Grace is buffed up and can act.

By the way this is Willem Defoe.

Are you the same guy who is Supershadow lol.

A lot to take in, a lot different from the comics version. I'm not sure about Raimi killing Aunt May off. Don't see it making sense but you never know. And as for killing MJ again, not much sense as both her and May have intergral parts in Pete's life in the comics. How different do they want the sereis to be? Plus, do they risk ticking off the fanboys and diehards (like myself)even though this film series is so big they can overcome lost dollars from them? Here's to hoping no. Kill Harry, Kill Gwen, don't kill May or MJ, that would suck.

OK. Not to sound the cliche anal comic book geek, but "Venom" is not the symbiote as it was constantly refered to in the plot spoilers. The symbiote is just the symbiote and isn't anything other than the symbiote until Brock joins with it. Then and only then do they become "Venom" together. Neither one individual is Venom, but only together they form Venom.(And, yes, if you want to be even more anal about that, one could point out that 2 other people other than Brock have become Venom since, currently including Mac Gargon.) Sorry, but I just thought I should point that out.

hey guys my name is Sal and i am a contractor who has some questions. now my son is so hyped about this venom fellow so i know what he looks like in those com books he has. however a site that my company was sub contacted to was used for some shots with this "venom" so they set up and as i was watching all i saw was spiderman groping a fellow in a head to toe neon green tights. but everyone was saying that it was a venom so what is venom gonna be green in the film? because this guy looked like peter pan. somone clear this up coz my kid is somwhat angry.

Simple FX procedure, Sal. He'll look like the Venom you can see here:

I knew it would turn to a Revenge of the Sith style movie, the big bad villian everyone loves only appears at the end. . . .Venom and Carnage are 1000000000000000000000000X more popular than Sandman and Green Goblin II. If I did this movie, I would have left it open for a 4th movie that would be all about Eddie Brock/Venom versus Spider-Man. Stick to the comics and old school cartoon I think is the best plot basis.

Here's my version, lol, for Spider-man 3:
I say, the guy whom Mary Jane dumps in the 2nd movie brings back the symbiote from like say an asteroid or something, it goes amok on the space shuttle, then have a big ass space shuttle crash landing in NYC and spidey to the rescue, and thus he gets the symbiote. I would go as far as throwing Black Cat, The Kingpin, Alester Smythe, The Spider Slayers, the shocker, the Rhino, and Green Goblin II(final villian) in the mix. Have Eddie Brock staying true to the comics, tell the sin-eater story, he starts pumping up, etc. I would have the Green Goblin II lookin like Darth Maul w/the black grim reaper robe, make his mask more organic and life-like when Harry speaks. I am sorry but Green Goblin I was horrific looking. Spider-man and Harry face off in a Anakin VS Obi-Wan battle, have the place of the battle at Oscorp blowing up and in flames, Harry makes peace with Peter before dying, the comics state he dies from OD of the Green Goblin serum. And of course, Peter gets rid of the symbiote in the church due to the bells ringing causing the symbiote pain from loud sound waves, Peter feels the agony too but chooses to reject the symbiote and leave it to die in the church. Eddie Brock then later arrives at the church to ask for forgiveness planning to commit suicide. The hurt symbiote senses Brocks feelings and bonds with him, creating the notorious dual entity VENOM. I would have the Brock to Venom transformation happen the same time as like say Harry Funneral, the scenes would be mixed together for drame, the end of a long time friend and enemy - the birth of a new and far more dangerous foe.

Feel free to compliment and critize!

If people are true fans of spider man then they'd want to see the movies done right. follow the path thats already set in motion. spiderman in the black suit looks awesome. it's supposed to look like the red/blue suit, just black. venom should have the white emblem but if they stick to the org. consept at least i think it is still going to be awesome. harry is the second green goblin, not the hobgoblin. if marry jane "dies" it should be in the next movie by mysterio. i'm excited to see how rami brought this together, i think its going to be 100 times better than X3

This informations is very...

Well, believable and unbelievable.

Everything that you have said sounds very much like what i would expect to see in the next movie, and, about 1/2 of all of it has been proven through trailers and such.

But, there are still flaws, and, you do not have any real proof, for all we know you could have found a bootleg version of the original trailer, and then copied that. Added a few parts of your own, but, I'm not saying you did that, if you ask me, I'm more on the side that you did actually get this information from a real source, and that it is almost all factual, I do though doubt that Aunt May will be killed in this next film.

Thanks,
Zach

Thank you so much for this reliable information. Everything you have said has already been confirmed by trailers, rumors, and other news surrounding the film. I have used this ppage as a source for the movie since July and have always believed this information was fact. Thank you so much for noticing that some of us hardcore spidey fans actually want to know the spoilers. Also do you have story on the fight between spidey and sandman in the subway? Just wondering.

"100 times better than X3"

You could accomplish that by filming a dancing monkey on a camcorder.

I already knew half the stuff he said and as for the guy who says he's willem dafoe prove it!!

ok first off nise blog copuple of things that make you think.

umm to the comic book fan boys(i am probally a bigger one then most) this is not a comic book this is a movie. certain things work in different mediums while they wont work in others. so if you think it is not as good as the comic then you are a comic fan more then you are a movie fan(not a bad thing just bluntly placed.

as far as harry being the hobgoblin lol don't make me laugh mr. raimi is a die hard spidey fan he would pull that and the producer wouldn't allow that. personally i tink that venom deserves his own movie going more then 2 villain's in a super hero movie (other then the x-men movie kinda if you think about it magneato was the only villain the rest of the mutants save mystique were basic henchmen) is a big mistake batman retuns and superman two are really the only super hero movies to pull the 2 or more villain thing off and still be good and look at the crap batman forever and batman and robin were.

on the more spidey movies thing.... really simple if this one is commercially successful .... then their will be a fourth but not for awhile like mabie 5 years to like 7 years. the super hero genre is on its last legs for now then after about 5-7 years it will resurface like it always does .

and lmao good for the kid who thinks he is tobey maguire lmfao that is a lolercopter roflmobile good time i love it when kids think they can be cool by saying something like that even if it was clearly meant as a joke.... to the william defoe guy you sound like he would probably sound on one of these but i highly doubt he would break his non-disclosure agreement with sony since he will probably be seen in a flash back or as a vision to harry at least once but ty to the kid who said he was toby i needed the laugh

Anonymous said...

Wow, there is too much bs on this page. All I want to know is if Raimi and Tobey are not going to be back for the next one, because if they are leaving, then someone better make up a damn Carnage tie-in.

That's the only movie that should end all Spiderman movies.

Anonymous said...

does peter/spiderman suffer a back injury in the movie? what's up with the shot of him on a stretcher in the trailer?

Anonymous said...

After reading this, I immediately got mad at myself for ruining the ending. I really hope this is wrong. I like being sad during movies, and if Aunt May and Harry really die, ill be ticked.

Anonymous said...

Well, i guess the most disapointing thing to me, is the producers seemingly abandon where the symbiote suit actually comes from. In the comics, the suit was given to Peter in a huge battle on another planet, when his suit was destroyed. I know that it is far fetched, but this is superhero world. As far as MJ, i find it hard to beleive that Dunst will just leave, without either being killed in the third, or early in the fourth film. I have also heard that Venom, while visually awesome, lacks in size as he did in the comic. Mysterio and the Lizard are cool, but what about Shocker, The Rhino, and Vulture? I love all three baddies, and i have heard nothing about any of them. I have also heard Toby McGuire has considered not returning as Spider Man in the fourth film. How depresing is that? I personally dont think he should have had the roll in the first place, but to abandon the series now!? Any insight?

Anonymous said...

i have a feeling the cast will stick around for at least a forth. see, macguire (spelling?) said he would leave because he doesn't think there will be a story line to top that of the 3rd. raimi will leave because he wants macguire as peter parker. dunst will leave because she like raimi as a directer and she wants macguire.

but now...

macguire said he may return because he feels "the stories need to be told." therefore, raimi will stay...leading to dunst staying. i'm not 100% sure, but i think it is very reasonable and possible.

When MJ gets slated for death is the day I stop watching any more movies!

I enjoy the whole bundle: action, special effects, plot, and little storylines. The SM + MJ storyline is very big for me - if it ever gets trashed, it cuts out all appeal of the movie for me. Done.

Anonymous said...

well i have read alot of these posts, not all because i dont have the time at the moment, but for MJ you dont have to kill her off, there are so many things that could happen, they could easly just maker her leave peter and be done with it, and i remember i dont know if it was in the comics or not, but i remember that 90's cartoon where mary jane and the green goblin got trapped in that other demintion, now i think that would be a strech for the movie, but my point is that there are many other directions they could have gone to get rid of her, and i cant wait to see what other love interest they will add

Brendon said...

Most of this has turned out tob espot on - but MJ didn't get killed off after all. There certainly were plans to, but in the end they did not. It has been at least two years since they thought they would, apparently, so some of this was old at the time it was posted, older now...

But did they keep her alive because Dunst agreed to the possibility of a fourth?

Anonymous said...

Aunt May dies? Where and when? Does she ever find out that peter is spidey? Does Peter and MJ get back together after Stacey and Peter break up?

Brendon said...

Neither MJ or Aunt May die. Don't worry - this report was combined from the tellings of a few sources, and the bad apple has been summarily chastised.

Anonymous said...

This is stupid. You know how wrong you are. Aunt May didn't die, which has caused you to issue a nervous response assuring any mentally challenged people who still believe you that the false informant has been taken care of. The symbiote doesn't stick to Spiderman's shoe after the date, which makes me wonder what kind of mentality this obvious stretch of the truth comes from. Perhaps its just somebody making up a bunch of bullshit. Following in the same suit as this stupid nuance of a movie to spoil, is a series of very big occurences of misinformation, which has GOT to piss EVERYBODY off: Bruce Campbell isnt Quentin Beck; there is absolutely no mention of the research which subsequently turns Curt Connors into the Lizard; the ring is not a major theme of the movie and never ends up in a pawn shop; Eddie Brock didn't FOLLOW Spidey to the belltower, and he certainly wasn't there to UPSTAGE Parker. Christ, I mean you take so many stabs in the dark after seeing the trailer, and you didn't even pay attention when Brock asks the Lord and Savior JESUS CHRIST to KILL SPIDERMAN!? This is rediculous, and I can't wait for you to not post this and further prove how shady a source of information you are. You're retarded. You wont post this just so you dont have to respond.

Anonymous said...

wow...want to not do that again?

Brendon said...

First of all, much of this information was written and published before any kind of footage of the events mentioned was released.

The Lizard research WAS visible - though underplayed. Look on the walls in Connor's lab. For people on set, such as a source, it was looking like it would play a more key part. But it's in the film. They got to stand around and take a good look - we're going to need zoom and pause on DVD.

The meteor with the symbiote on was 'kept secret' until long, long after I revealed it here. One approach - the gum on shoe - was obviously rejected. But the moped carriage gimmick was very similar, and just a variant on the same idea. Again - no sign of this Meteoric origin in any material released until MONTHS after this post was written.

"It is only at the end of the film that Spidey faces off against Venom. Thankfully, Harry herein comes to his aid in Green Goblin guise, showing that he too has won his own internal conflict much like Peter has. Hurrah for Harry" - you can't fault that, really.

The ring was very important for the first act, at least: Aunt May hands it over, the fight, the stuff in the restaurant. As regards the pawn shop - somebody on set saw Peter's scenes outside the pawn shop (again, top secret for MONTHS after this) and made a bad assumption. But you can see what they were thinking, right?

"Spidey's fights with the Sandman not only take place in the Armoured Car chase so well covered on this blog (I was on set for much of the shooting) but also, I am told, in the subway. The final fight, the four-way rumble with Spidey, The Sandman, Venom and Harry as the Green Goblin, takes place in a construction site" - there you go., A big spoiler, and almost a YEAR ago.

Re: Quentin Beck. Looks like I was outright lied to about this - and about May and MJ dying. Having said that, I'm still told that MJ's death was a real possibility for a very long time, even into shooting.

I know where each scrap of this came from, and I've been able to sift good source from bad.

Trust me - I was as disappointed in the bad source as much as you were.

Anonymous said...

Maybe I was a bit overboard in my outrage, you did make some good points. However you can obviously understand why I would be disappointed, especially after no Quentin Beck (even though the french waiter was hilarious). And also, the complete absence of the appearance of a Spiderman film-within-a-film, which you mentioned in other post. That sucks dude.

Brendon said...

You're telling me it sucks. But I agree, Bruce Campbell was excellent.

The whole Quentin Beck and the film-within-a-film stuff was thoroughly debunked in another bunch of comments before the film came out. Still left me massively disappointed.

And the false Jason Schwartzman story too. In fact, that one really annoyed me.
