Maysles Week

From tomorrow, Sunday 6th August, until Wednesday 9th, BBC Four are having a Maysles week to celebrate the pioneering documentarians, Albert and David Maysles.

Sunday to Wednesday is a week? Please, Aunty, stop hyping things with needless hyperbole. Four Days Of Maysles would have been a perfectly acceptable, and factual, title. Or how about, simply, A Short Maysles Season?

They will be showing Gimme Shelter, The Salesman, Grey Gardens - apparently being fictionalised as a Drew Barrymore vehicle - and Meet Marlon Brando. Criterion's range of Maysles films could set you back a pretty penny, so all good license payers should rejoice - you're getting another bargain from the beeb.
