Horse Killed On Movie Set

A tricky set up on location for James Mangold's 3:10 to Yuma resulted in the injury, then euthenasia, of a horse and the serious injury of it's stunt rider.

Aparently, a group of eleven horses were riding towards an oncoming camera car and were supposed to peel off in groups to either side. One horse did not, and collided head on with the vehicle.

The American Humane Association have requested an independent investigation.

What's the worst that will happen? Will the film have to have an "Actually, a horse was killed during the making of this film" disclaimer in the end credits? Will we see something like the shot as was designed in the final film or will Mangold get cold feet and change his shot list? Will the footage as shot somehow be incorporated? Should we expect an upsurge in equine CG as a result of this tragedy?

I hope the stunt man involved recovers fully, and soon.

Hi there. ... its sad and distressing that an animal has died on the set of James Mangold's new film. Particularly a horse, and in such a tragic way. Thankfully its a relatively rare occurence nowadays ( since the sadistic and harsh methods used by, for example' michael cimino in Heaven's Gate). Many film fans and people in the industry take great joy in seeing the work done with and by animals while making a picture. but it is also a honour and responsibilty to work with animals..many people exist in the business to make sure it all works out - i'm sure those guys will be in distress over this incident. (dead horses are a sad legacy of many westerns..) Anyway..your blogs good ( dark knight ) but sorry the tone of this post just makes you sound like your trying to be funny about it - and is can be taken as just faintly offensive and uncool, not funny or ironic or anything. Christian Bale and Russell Crowe are both well known in the industry to be animal lovers and campaigners.. i very much doubt they or anyone else wants or seeks to see this shot in the final movie.
