Jonus Akerlund Closing In On David Fincher
What do Jonus Akerlund and David Fincher have in common? Apart from the catalogue of woeful music videos.
Okay, and apart from the terrifyingly awful first features (Spin and Alien Cubed).
Yep - it's their terrifyingly awful second features.
Movieweb tell me that Akerlund is directing The Horsemen. As far as I can tell, this is a moody pseudo-noir detective thriller in which the investigator uncovers a slew of serial killings that have apparently been inspired by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Sounds a bit like Se7en, doesn't it? All it needs to be entirely like Se7en now is an underused, underappreciated genius cinematographer, some criminal editing, a pretentious script that goes of the rails and contradicts it's own attempt at having internal logic and some of the most indulgent directorial choices you ever likely to witness.
The genius cinematographer bit isn't necessarily on the cards, but as for the rest, we might as well be looking at Se7en 2wo (or should that be Ei8ht?).
