Television: The Opera
The BBC have tody unveiled the winter and spring highlights for BBC2 and one that caught my eye was Television: The Opera, a spin-off from the similarly titled Jerry Springer musical from a few years back. This one reteams Stewart Lee and Richard Thomas to offer a series of short musical comedies, each based on a different popular TV show format. If Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, The Weakest Link or Deal or No Deal aren't in the selection I will be very, very surprised.
Personally, I'd like to see Deal or No Deal from that lot and, otherwise, such 'delights' as Newsnight, It's A Knockout, Coronation Street - over Eastenders, certainly - and Jamie's School Dinners.
Stewart Lee is a very clever, funny and important comedian and this show is very likely to be a genuine highlight of 2007.
