Movie Minesweeper - The Asterix Asterisk Edition
- A TV channel derived from Nuts magazine goes to air in the UK on the 12th of September and, frankly, it sounds like Live! TV all over again. Lucy Pinder reading a Book at Bedtime; a North vs South quiz show; Britains Fittest Barmaid; and Will Beauty Call? in which "three blokes fight for the chance to get the phone number of Miss England, Miss Liverpool and Miss Glasgow". Dear lord. And there's plenty more where that came from.
- Ken Loach is using the release of his new film It's a Free World as a platform for some very direct and strong comments about the exploitation of migrant workers.
- Some nice new ads for Stardust (obviosuly too late to save it from tanking in the US) are turning up online. The first is available in Quicktime, the others are currently only on YouTube.
- Talking of YouTube, Thailand's ban on the site has now been lifted after five months in action. The only condition, it seems, is that YouTube block clips considered 'offensive' to King Bhumibol.
- AintItCool have published some details of the Blade Runner: Final Cut out of the film's Venice premiere. All good news... with one possible exception. The 'hospital scene' is still absent. If you know the scene I'm referring too, you might be disappointed, otherwise you'll never miss what you never knew about. Right?
- RopeOfSilicon have posted lots of images from Across the Universe. The film is released on the 14th in the US and the 28th in the UK and, I'm happy to say, in Julie Taymor's edit. I can't wait.
- Spoilers for season 2 of Ugly Betty are piling up.
- Today's the day the Back to the Future ride at Universal Studios Hollywood shuts down to be disassembled and replaced with a Simpsons one. Sigh. Peyton Reed - a real film ick favourite - directed the videos of Christopher Lloyd seen by passengers queuing for the ride, and I never got to see them. And while we're on the subject, no five episodes of The Simpsons laid back to back would be as satisfying as Back to the Future, would they?

The acting by the guy in the Iron Lung in the excised hospital scene of Blade Runner is so bad -unintentionally or intentionally comic- and so inconsistent with the performances in the rest of the film, it's no wonder it was never used. It also doesn't really advance the film in any way.
Anyone who thinks it should be in the film because it just happens to be another bit found on the cutting room floor is a moron.
I wouldn't argue for a 'faulty' scene to go into the film, but to be honest, I had no idea about the performance.
If the film suffers for it going in, then it should be out.
The fact remains, a decently performed and shot version of the scene would add loads. It has some important and interesting variations on the film's ideas in it.
It's a long time since I saw it, but I don't remember it being incongruously bad.
RIP back to the Future Ride - we salute you!
doesnt that blade runner scene also make reference to a sixth replicant. which of course they had to cut out. anyone know if the lip sync of Bryant in the office has been redone?
