Summer Sunshine

According to a press release from Fox Searchlight, the delayed US release of Danny Boyle's Sunshine has been bought forward to July. I'm sure that's going to make a lot of people happy.

Does the film have a chance in the July playing field? That's an entirely different question. And not one I'm that concerned with, if I'm honest. It will come, it will go, it will be a hit or it won't: the film itself won't change, it will still be the same, silly thing.

On a related note, I'd like to review 28 Weeks Later in as few words as reasonable: much better than the first one, still not wonderful; made more sense, though there were some gaps in the logic; better ideas; set-pieces were more interesting, on paper at least - they weren't realised perfectly; some awful editing; some very interesting music; the lead kids weren't really too great but the girl did have very odd features; Rose Byrne's role was desperately underwritten; another draft or two and a better director and it could have been great; it was odd to see characters running through the Greenwich tunnel chased by flames on the week the Cutty Sark was set alight, it was lucky we didn't have a shot of the boat aflame in the film.

Movie Minesweeper - The I Have To Rush Off To Work Edition

- The Red Ballon is headed back to Cannes. Lovely.

- 5 full minutes of Hostel 2 are to play before Bug in American cinemas.

- Jon 'Duckie' Cryer is to star in Tortured, a thriller to be directed by Nolan Lebovitz.

- Scott McCloud is to speak at Siggraph this year. Understanding Comics is the one book I recommend without fail to each and every one of my film students.

- There's a nice Magicians featurette online now.

- Stuntman Mike's Death Proof car is for sale on e-bay.

- Time Out have some 28 Weeks Later clips. In case you were thinking of going to see it, these should put you off.

Ginormous New 28 Weeks Later Poster

I bet that 28 Weeks Later is a better film than 28 Days Later. I also bet that 28 Weeks Later is more than a bit rubbish. Click on this poster to make it bigger than big.

Later Without Jools Holland

These are stills I've just received from 28 Weeks Later, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's sequel to Danny Boyle's logic-challenged zombie movie, 28 Days Later. If you ask me, the top two look like a shot sequence from an over enthusiastic paintballing commercial.
