Natalie Martinez On The Starting Blocks

Frankenstein's navigator in the Death Race rehash is being cast with Natalie Martinez in final negotiations to secure the role.

As more details of this film are revealed, the differences are coming into focus. It seems that the competitiors are prisoners, that the race takes place in an enclosed arena and that Jason Statham's Frankenstein makes an escape attempt. No doubt, the Race focus now shifts - this will be a real chase, and he'll have the authorities on his tail as he speeds away. I'd like to see an attempt on the Blues Brothers' chase-and-crash world records, but I don't think we'll be so lucky at all.

The original Death Race is a bonafide gem and if you haven't seen it but like chase films, pitch black satire or driving the wrong way down a very busy road, then you should definitely buy a copy.

Quick Casting News: Jason Statham And Crispin Glover

Jason Statham is about to sign for Death Race, a long-in-development retooling of the truly superb Death Race 2000. Cripsin Glover is to lead in J T Mollner's The I Scream Man. The trades lit up with both stories, and they subsequently spread like wild fire.

Crispin Glover is in a small clique of actors that will get me interested in a project through nothing more than their involvement. Statham certainly is not, but he's pretty good at what he does. Bit like my mum and dad's milkman, really.

Trixie And X Still Open, Place Your Bets Now

According to the trades, John Goodman and Susan Sarandon are about to sign deals to play the parents of Speed Racer. His girlfriend Trixie and nemesis Racer X are still open, however.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jason Statham? Camilla Belle and Luke Wilson? Emma Roberts and Joseph Gordon Levitt?

You know, I just don't care as long as Alan Cumming reprises his role as Gazoo.
