And Then There Was One

Akira Kurosawa was a member of AMPAS - the folks behind the Oscars. He was the first Japanese member. Then the Academy invited Ken Watanabe to join too, too, and then, a few weeks ago, Hayao Miyazaki was enlisted.

Already, though, Miyazaki has quit. The official reason is that he wishes to concentrate on movie making, not getting "bogged down" in Academy business. But I thought he was retiring from feature film making (again)? Maybe his beloved caterpillar project is back on the cards...?

So, now, only Ken Watanabe represents Japan in the AMPAS gang. That just can't be right.

Hiroyuki Sanada! he has acted in many films around the world and his profile in the USA is increasing thanks to LAST SAMURAI and Danny Boyle's SUNSHINE (sci-fi thriller soon to be released).
