Abu Ghraib: The Movie
Errol Morris is to make a documentary about the Abu Ghraib attrocities. Much of his funding will come from Participant Productions, who have already amassed a catalogue of politically charged and socially conscious films, including Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth, Syriana, Fast Food Nation and Good Night, And Good Luck, with the rest of the money reportedly coming from Sony, who have yet to comment or confirm this. Let's hope they don't get cold feet.
Without a doubt, this will be a very much discussed film, and pretty much a shoo-in for an Academy Award. More to the point, I expect Morris to make a very incisive, chilling film, and bring the inhumanity of Abu Ghraib to even wider attention while also filling in the finer details for those of us, like myself, who were apalled by the situation but not exactly expert authorities on the subject.
I can't think of a better director for such a project.
