InDigEnt Announces January Demise

Charlotte’s Web director Gary Winick has announced the imminent demise of his six-year-old independent production company InDigEnt. Standing for Independent Digital Entertainment, the company was instrumental in seeing the release of low ($1m) budget digital films such as Sundance hits Tadpole and Personal Velocity.

It seems that the company is shutting down due to a major shift in the budgets of independent features, as bigger companies take an interest in using Indie as a lucrative badge of honour. Winick also suggests that balancing the company alongside the 2-and-a-half year schedule of the upcoming Charlotte’s Web was proving too much. Perhaps he is right, however, when he says that independent filmmaking will find its natural home on the net – and maybe we will be seeing an online InDigEnt equivalent in the not too distant future.
